Jan 20, 2007 - Looking for forum moderator & programmer
First off, Thai language has been added. No feature updates yet (the programmer who was working on them has been busy with other projects), so if you have knowledge of MySQL and PHP and would like to improve the site (we have a list of exciting new features to implement) drop me an email . Here you can showcase your work, test out your ideas, improve your skills and contribute to the number one subtitles site on the net!
Sept 10, 2006 - New languages added
Bosnian, Farsi (Persian) and Ukrainian languages have been added. Let me know if there are any other languages you'd like divxsubtitles.net to support (you can find contact details at the bottom of the page).
Feb 13, 2007 - Please report broken subtitles in forum
Thanks to Hemlock555 the forum is really becoming a useful place again. Since reporting broken subtitles is not yet built into the main site itself (other than giving it a low grade), please report any broken subtitles (wrong languages, bad translations, trojans etc) in the forum. Thanks!
Jan 27, 2007 - Cleaned forum, removed broken subtitles
Please welcome our new forum moderator Hemlock555! Thanks to his help we've now cleaned the forum of spam and spammers and also removed a lot of broken/virus/trojan subtitles from the database. As before, you can use the forum to request subtitles but PLEASE read the sticky first. If anyone else wants to help out with PHP and MySQL to implement exciting new features on this site, please let me know.
Sept 21, 2006 - Send your suggestions for new features!
We are planning a major update. If you have any suggestions for new features or improvements for the site, you can either add your suggestions in the forum or send them directly to me. Thanks!
May 16, 2006 - If you have trouble logging in or registering
Some registered users are not receiving their confirmation e-mails with their passwords. If that is the case, please try another e-mail address to sign up with. Your existing e-mail address is probably blocking the mail sent by divxsubtitles.net and unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it. If you wish, you can also use divxsubtitles.net without having to register at all - just enter firstname.lastname@example.org for your usename, demo for your password and don't forget to enter the control number. If you still can't login, please try a different browser (Internet Explorer) or try logging in from another computer.
September 17, 2005 - Some additional user preferences options
Check out the additional User Preferences options (from the drop-down menu) - you can now add your homepage address (you can use that to advertise your homepage if you are a frequent subtitles uploader), hide or show your instant messenger contacts (ICQ, Yahoo, MSN), upload your avatar picture, and select your country and year of birth.
August 17, 2005 - Temporarily reduced features
Once again, the load proved too great for the current host I was running on, so I've currently reduced the features to only bare necessities, like uploading, downloading and searching for subtitles. Once I get someone to optimize the code even further (since I don't have the skills to do it myself) or an even more powerful hosting option, the remaining features will be brought back.
July 06, 2005 - Fixing upload mistakes now possible
If you make or ever made a mistake when uploading a subtitle, you can now fix your mistake when you select '- my subtitles' from the drop-down menu. All subtitles you ever uploaded are there and can be edited (change name or language etc) or even deleted. You can also add a picture (URL) to the subtitle you upload. Also added Belarus and Esperanto languages and changed Brasilian Portuguese to Portuguese Brasilian.
June 21, 2005 - Rating subtitles now possible!
Thanks to 'tman', it is now possible to rate subtitles (works only if you have logged in). It would be great, if you could rate every subtitle you download. But at the very least, if you find a corrupt, wrong, stupid or virus subtitle, please come back and rate it as such. Thanks!
June 17, 2005 - FORUM open again!
The DivxSubtitles.net FORUM is open again, but everyone who registered in the forum after February 2004 will have to register again (your DivxSubtitles.net registration does not work in the forum). Also, thanks to 'tman', you no longer have to log into the site every time you come back - you will be remembered for 100 days from the last time you logged in.
June 13, 2005 - FAQ update and more reordering options
I've updated the FAQ to talk a bit about out of sync subtitles, put in a good word for my personal favourite movie player BSPlayer and a few other things. Additionally, thanks to 'tman', you can now reorder your search results any way you want, including by date - this way you can download the latest (and hopefully best) subtitle for any given movie more easily.
June 12, 2005 - Advertising banners on Divxsubtitles.net
As you've probably noticed, Divxsubtitles.net now has banners to support the site and pay for hosting. Thanks to everyone who suggested to give this option a try! Unlike many other sites, I won't encourage you to click on the banners aimlessly to 'show your support' - that wouldn't be fair to all the advertisers who pay real money for each click that is made on their banners. However, if you do find something on the banners that interests you, feel free to explore further - and you're also helping Divxsubtitles.net stay alive while doing so.
May 28, 2005 - You can now reorder your search results
This much needed feature was a _few_ years in the making, but courtesy of 'tman' (who this site owes a million thanks for the work he's been doing with it lately), you can now rearrange your subtitle search results by 'Movie Title', 'Language', 'Format', 'Number of CDs' or 'Uploader'. Just click the small arrows next to these headings in your search results to try it out.
May 15, 2005 - Site open yet again
We've moved yet to another host and the site is open again. We've added turing numbers to keep subtitle search engines out of the site and processor load of the database at a minimum. [Edit: We do now actually allow subtitle search engines to browse the site, but you have to be a registered user and logged in to download the subtitles].
March 19, 2004 - 'Macedonian' language added
I've added Macedonian to the selection of languages, so you can also upload/download Macedonian subtitles from now on.
November 29, 2003 - VIRUSES! (or 'virii' as some prefer it)
NB! Do NOT run any executable files you may find in the subtitles you've downloaded - they are almost 100% certain to contain a virus. Unfortunately some people tend to think it is funny to upload viruses inside zip files instead of real subtitles. What a sad way to waste one's own and other people's time. If you find a subtitle file with an executable file in it, please contact me directly and let me know the EXACT filename of the subtitle archive (for example '23519.rar'), so I can delete the file from the database. Please do not just tell me 'the German subtitle for Finding Nemo has a virus', because then I'd have to look up and download all German subtitles for this movie and test them each individually to find the arcive with the virus, and I just don't have the time for that. So please, tell me the EXACT filename. Thanks!
January 12, 2003 - 'English' vs 'English for the hearing impaired'
Just a quick reminder to everyone uploading English subtitles - if possible, please upload English for the hearing impaired subtitles under its own category. They're not quite the same as regular English subtitles and unless you're actually a hearing impaired user, such subtitles can someetimes be rather annoying. It'd be nice if we could keep the two separate. Thanks!
January 07, 2003 - FAQ fixed and updated
I have now updated and fixed the Frequently Asked Questions page - if you ever had a question about using subtitles or this site, please look through the FAQ again. If you find that your question is not answered there, please drop me a note so I can add it to the FAQ. Thanks!
September 20, 2002 - Changing your password and e-mail
Good news, and about time - everyone can now change their automatically generated passwords to whatever they like, the same also goes for e-mail address. Just choose 'user preferences' from the drop-down menu and you'll be on your way. No more remembering or entering passwords like '95lKyXEz1U':)
July 8, 2002 - Top uploaders list and upload size limit
There's now a top uploaders list right next to the recently uploaded subtitles list - a great place to check out how you're doing compared to all other subtitle contributors! Needless to say, I was sorely disappointed not to find myself in the list - well, at least now I know to step up my efforts:)
Additionally, the 200 kb size limit per uploaded file has been re-implemented. Without the limit, more and more vobsub subtitles got uploaded and those things are just plain monstrous. Taking up oozles of megabytes, they're slow to download (and upload), awkward to handle and on top of it - because of their huge size, you can hardly ever squeeze them onto a cd together with the movie you wish to save, making them just plain useless. Do let me know though if you think this is a wrong decision, maybe they're absolute lifesavers for some of you out there, in that case we can still reconsider. But for the moment the size limit won't allow any more of them to be added.
May 20, 2002 - 'Stupid' subtitles?
In addition to broken or wrong (movie or language) subtitles, a new category of subtitles has appeared - let's call them 'stupid' subtitles:) They're the ones where the translation/subtitles is SO WRONG its not even funny any more (my latest personal experiences have been with Ocean's 11, Shrek and Beautiful Mind). If you enounter any of those, please drop me a line (my address is at the bottom of the page) so I can remove them from the database. Thanks for keeping divxsubtitles.net the best subtitles site on the net!
May 12, 2002 - WinRAR 3.x archives and lost subtitles
If you suspect you've downloaded a corrupt subtitle, try unpacking with WinRAR 3.x first. That's because anything packed with WinRAR 3.x will always give errors if unpacked with WinRAR 2.x - there have been a lot of false alarms about corrupt subtitles, when in fact they were just WinRAR 3.x archives. If that doesn't help, please let me know the exact filename of the subtitle so I can delete it from the database.
Mar 13, 2002 - Trouble with searching or downloading?
Feb 23, 2002 - More features to be added
Two additional features that will hopefully soon be enabled are the 'latest uploads' page and 'seach by date' criteria on the search page. If there are any other features that you people want to see enabled on this site besides the ones already mentioned here and below, drop me a note. The reason things may be appearing slowly is that I am not behind the programming for this site, however I'll do my best to hurry up the excellent people at virtuaal.ee who are.
Feb 22, 2002 - Important features working again
The following features are working again - registering new users, reminding old password and uploading new subtitles. Next in line are best uploaders, requesting and viewing requested subtitles, rating them (to eliminate bad subtitles) and a 'Next Page' link in case there are more than 40 subtitles per search result page - I'll let you know right here when they're done. If you want to contact me, use the address at the bottom of the page (tonyx@etc...), only that will reach me, all other addresses (admin@, webmaster@ etc) will NOT reach me (a measure I had to take to cut down spam).
Feb 10, 2002 - Welcome back!
We're back! Hello, my name is Tony and I am the new administrator of divxsubtitles.net. Magnus, the original creator and administrator of divxsubtitles.net, was no longer able to host and administer the site for personal reasons so I offered to take over. If for no other reason then because divxsubtitles.net had become my lifeline for getting the absolute best enjoyment out of DivX movies.
That's right - being able to watch a movie with subtitles (even if it were a movie in English with English subtitles) makes a world of difference when it comes to understanding what's going on in a movie, especially for those for whom English is not a native language. Sure, you could watch almost any all-out action movie without subtitles not missing much, but try watching Snatch or Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels without them - well good luck:)
As you've probably noticed, not quite everything is yet fully functional here. That's because the site was originally run on a Windows2000 server but is now in the process of being ported to Unix for added speed and stability to affirm the place of divxsubtitles.net as the number one DivX subtitles site on the net. This means rewriting and optimizing almost everything (the database, the scripts) for a new, stabler and speedier operating system.
Obviously this will take a little time but at least the most important features - searching and downloading subtitles - are already in place, so next in line are uploading new subtitles, registering new users and reminding forgotten password features. Hopefully these will also become functional within a few days.
